background1The Healing Power of the Circle

This book of “Spiritual Awakenings” is dedicated to everyone who embodies the National Association of Black Social Workers.  Our coming together in the spirit of collective responsibility to our community for the past forty years is an awesome testament to our courage and belief in the capacity of people of African ancestry to triumph in the face of extreme adversity.

To the Founders and Pioneers for their struggles and triumphs;

To the Past Presidents who in-spite of challenges produced unmistakable achievements;

To our Ancestors, Cenie “Jomo” Williams, Morris F.X. Jeff Jr., Audrey Johnson and Karim Childs and far too many more to call by name, yet they are all smiling;

To the Authors and Editors for their outstanding contributions to awaken our spirits;

To Black Family Development, Inc. and Alice G. Thompson, whose spirit of reciprocity helped to make publishing a reality;

And finally, but not in the least, this book is dedicated to all members and potential members. Your loyalty and efforts in helping African American children and families are the foundation our success is built on.

The Healing Power of the Circle is for you!

In the spirit and joy of Harambee,

Gloria Batiste-Roberts, DPH, LMSW-AP

President, National Association of Black Social Workers
